Pointe du Raz and Baie des Trepasses

On a wild and blustery Sunday we set off to one of the most western points in Finistere - the Pointe du Raz. The atmosphere there is amazing - and it's even better in the squalls than on a sunny day! Sad to notice the erosion on some of the cliffs though.

We also spent some time at the Baie des Trepasses, a place of legends.  Ally loved it - she was fearless! She ran round on the beach and in the sea - you wouldn't have guessed that she was blind.

I didn't want to leave... even though daylight was fading... and it was windy and squally. It was heaven.

La Fourmi Rouge

Each Tuesday evening we always drive down to Le Faouet to go to our favourite bar in the world: La Fourmi Rouge.
We've been going there for several months now, which is strange as going to bars isn't something that is part of our routine. Put simply, it's because of:

  • the great atmosphere
  • the fantastic session music on Tuesday evenings

  • the amazing hospitality
  • the lovely people there - Breton, French, British and others

not forgetting the great paninis....   and desserts!

Brignogan Plages, Hallowe'en 2016

Paul and I drove over to Brignogan Plages for an afternoon last week, after having been to see the Chagal exhibition in Landerneau in the morning

This place is very special to me. I remember coming here in the golden summers of '73 '74 and '75 with Bernadette and Jacques. I was fortunate enough to spend those summers with them and their wonderful family.

It was as beautiful as ever, although this time our time wasn't spent playing beach volley ball.

Arrival in Roscoff 28th October 2016

We sailed into Roscoff just before the dawn broke. Our first destination (before going home) was to the beach, and we got there as the sun was starting to show signs of its imminent arrival. Silence except for the sound of the sea. Colours beginning to make themselves seen. Peace.

Blogging Again

So it's been a while since I added to the blog... sometimes you just need to take a break for a while.

In the meantime although I've been absent from blogging we've certainly not been absent from Finistere (and other parts of Brittany).

I'm going to start posting and keeping up to date again, but every so often I might put something up from a little further back. Whatever that something is, it will have touched me. Finistere's like that.

Ile de Sieck

The sun came out and we went up to the North Coast. We walked acrossfrom Le Dossen to the Ile de Sieck.
       It was beautiful.
We felt the sun and wind on our faces, heard the sea and tasted the salt on our lips.

Back in Huelgoat Forest - at last!

Wonderful to have a late winter walk in Huelgoat Forest, it is so beautiful. The centre picture shows a bridge that probably dates back to the Iron Age!
